Ron's Weekly Recaps

As the end of session approaches this spring, this week was incredibly busy in Madison.  We held hearings in both my Judiciary and Insurance Committee’s on Thursday.

On Wednesday a US federal court unsealed hundreds of documents from a 2015 civil lawsuit brought on by Virginia Giuffre.  Giuffre accused Jeffery Epstein and his former partner Ghislaine Maxwell, of sex trafficking her as well as numerous other underage girls.

This Recap, I go through all of my accomplishments of 2023. 

After narrowly voting against the deal 9-8 last Saturday, the UW Board of Regents called for another meeting on Wednesday night, where they voted to approve the deal put together after months of negotiation between Speaker Robin Vos and the Board of Regents.

Governor Evers vetoed a bill I supported which would have made it illegal to perform irreversible sex-changing surgeries on minors in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Right Now published information on Sunday exposing Gov. Evers for using a fake state email account “warren.spahn@wisconsin.gov.” The governor’s office refused to release the emails which were verified by state employees who had seen this shady communication, and by an open records request.

Fishing is a sport that can be enjoyed at almost any age.  Further, Wisconsin’s lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams are known for their excellent fishing. Our state already offers several types of resident fishing licenses, which consistently generate $9-10 million in annual revenue. My bill creates another option for sportsmen and women – a lifetime fishing license. 

Last week, the Assembly advanced three constitutional amendments to enshrine election integrity laws into our constitution. These proposals will soon be placed on the ballot for you to decide. Here's a look at what you'll be voting on in the near future.

This week, Governor Evers's Administration filed a lawsuit against the Wisconsin State Legislature in an attempt to take away some funding powers granted to us through the Constitution. It's expected to be taken up by the far-left-controlled state supreme court. 

On Tuesday, Ron attended a joint hearing with the Senate on several election-related bills. One of which was a constitutional amendment enshrining voter ID laws into our state constitution.
