Audit of the Finances at American
Family Field Sorely Needed
MADISON – Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement, calling for a nonpartisan evaluation from the award-winning Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) of the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District, which manages American Family Field, ahead of advancing discussions on public funding:
“Prior to the legislation authorizing a local referendum to implement a Brown County sales tax for Lambeau Field renovations, we had a nonpartisan audit by the LAB of stadium finances. This allowed us to learn the baseline of the finances and issues with administration, before asking local taxpayers for stadium improvement funding.
“A proposal has been brought before the Legislature calling for a massive economic commitment stretching several decades. Before we further consider this proposal on its merits, we need to take the same steps we took for Lambeau Field and have the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau dig into the finances, program operations, and statutory compliance of the Professional Baseball Park District to help us make a more informed decision.”
