Statement on Retirement of Senator Jerry Petrowski

GREEN BAY– Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement in response to the announcement that Senator Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon) will retire at the end of this term:

“Not only is Jerry one of my closest confidants, but he is one of the most decent, hard-working, and most dedicated legislators I’ve ever had the pleasure of serving with. His sensible approach to policy, level-headed demeanor, focus on the issues impacting his district, and cordial nature to all is something that we don’t have enough of in modern politics, and unfortunately we’re losing one of the people that best exemplifies those traits.

“From his first day in the Assembly through today, Jerry has always put solving problems for his district first. Just this last Tuesday, which was likely his last floor period, a bill he authored to provide the funding needed to cleanup electronics waste from the defunct 5R Processors unanimously passed the Senate, removing millions in costs that were being assessed to small local governments in his district. This is just the most recent among countless examples of how his leadership has solved a problem for the people of Northcentral Wisconsin.

“I want to thank Jerry for his years of service, congratulate him on his retirement, and wish him all the best in his next chapter. His background, knowledge, expertise and overall presence will be sorely missed in the Senate Republican Caucus.”
