Bart Starr Memorial Bridge Signed into Law

MADISON– Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement after 2021 Senate Bill 101 was signed into law as 2021 Wisconsin Act 74 to designate the Walnut Street Bridge in the City of Green Bay (also is State Highway 29) as the ‘Bart Starr Memorial Bridge.’ Senator Cowles was the second Senate author of the bill behind Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Green Bay), and was also the second Senate author of a similar bill in the 2019-2020 Legislative Session:

“While Bart Starr may have passed, his legacy continues in professional football and throughout our region and state. Whether it’s in the rafters of Lambeau Field as one of just six Packers in 100 years to have their number retired, in the hallways of the Packers or Professional Football Halls of Fame, in the memories of those fortunate enough to have watched his mind working during one of his many unforgettable snaps, or in the lives of hundreds of young people who’ve benefited from Rawhide or the Starr Children’s Fund, his talent, leadership, character and commitment remain evident on and off the field through today. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to work with my colleagues to designate the Walnut Street Bridge in downtown Green Bay after this local legend to ensure his accomplishments are remembered for decades to come.”
