Boaters Rejoice: Water Levels on Shawano Lake on the Rise after Safety and Community Concerns

GREEN BAY- Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved a temporary order returning Shawano Lake to the 30-year historic lake level before the Fourth of July holiday week. This decision came after Senator Cowles and Representative Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel) sent a letter to FERC requesting that the water levels were increased for safety and recreation purposes:

“I’m incredibly pleased to announce the decision by FERC to raise the water level on Shawano Lake. This decision came just in time for the busy Fourth of July weekends, meaning that we can allow residents and visitors to spend their holiday like they always have: safely on the Lake.

“The cooperation from local leaders, state officials, and the federal agency was key in getting this approval quickly. Given that this order will only last for this year, I hope for continued cooperation and a joint effort to find a long-term solution to keep Shawano Lake a prime recreation hub and a safe place to live and visit.”
