COWLES RETURNS OVER 50% OF OFFICE BUDGET
Has saved Wisconsin taxpayers over $100,000 since 2008

MADISON…State Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) announced today that he and his staff will be returning over 50% of the balance of his legislative office account back to the state coffers.

Cowles’s office account will be returning over $28,000 to the state. This is more than 50% of the total two-year budget for a Senate office.

“I have always felt that the legislature must lead through example,” said Cowles. “I keep an extremely close eye on my own office account. Through conserving office supplies my staff and I hold down costs.”

“We are always facing tight budgets, and we in the legislature should keep our costs down just like other state agencies,” said Cowles. “Keeping government spending balanced without raising taxes is critical. By running an efficient office we have constantly been good stewards of taxpayer resources.”

Cowles has consistently returned a large percentage of his office account at the conclusion of a legislative session, saving the taxpayers over $100,000 in the last 8 years.

“The legislature is part of the state budget and we cannot act as if we are somehow immune from what is going on with the overall budget,” Cowles said.
