What a pleasure to see former Governor Marty Schreiber as Governor Tony Evers signed into law a bill close to Marty's heart — ensuring more caregivers are eligible for Wisconsin's Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver Support Program.

On Thursday, I had the pleasure of joining the creative minds behind ART House 360 in Verona for their grand opening. I saw the old building before the project began…what a transformation! The building has been fully redone, with studio space, performance areas, and kitchen space for cooking classes. 

Reading letters from constituents gives me a deep appreciation for the people I serve: District 27 residents are engaged, caring, and knowledgeable! It is important for me to know what is on your minds, what keeps you up at night, and your ideas for making Wisconsin stronger. Thank you for writing. Keep those letters and emails coming!

On July 24, Governor Tony Evers announced he will not run for re-election. Governor Evers’ leadership, integrity, and his tireless focus on doing what is right for our State has made Wisconsin stronger. You can read my statement in my latest e-Update.

This past week I spoke with Wisconsin long-term care providers and nursing homes, honored a public servant, and celebrated the anniversary of a business.

Thanks to the Town of Mazomanie for the invitation to the Town Board meeting last week. Rep. Alex Joers and I were pleased to share some updates from state government and, most importantly, to hear from these dedicated local leaders about what is on their minds. It was an informative evening in a beautiful part of the district!

This update includes the passage of the Big Ugly Bill, the State Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion, and my recent veterans roundtable discussion.

This budget is a far cry from when I joined budget negotiations at the end of June. While the budget is still imperfect, the people of Wisconsin are right to expect their elected representatives will come to the table and, through negotiation and compromise, get meaningful work done in the best interests of our State.

As he exited the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked by a group of onlookers what kind of government the delegates had created. “A republic, if you can keep it,” was his famous reply.
