Audit Committee Unanimously Approves Audit of Veterans Home at King

MADISON- Today, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee voted 10-0 to direct the independent and nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau to conduct an audit of the Veterans Home at King.

The Legislative Audit Bureau’s review will include changes in acute and behavioral care trends, population changes, resident complaints, regulatory compliance, staffing levels, turnover, overtime, training, staff satisfaction, facility and equipment conditions and revenues and expenditures, including transfers from the Veterans Home at King.

Committee Co-Chairs Representative Samantha Kerkman (R- Salem) and Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) and committee members pledged their support to approve an audit by the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) of the veteran’s home in late August.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the public hearing today and a special thank you to the veterans in attendance for their service and continued investment in the veterans’ community,” said Rep. Kerkman. “I appreciate Secretary Scocos’ support of this audit and look forward to conclusion of the audit and the release of the audit report.”

“Today, we heard testimony from veterans to support an audit of the Veterans Home at King. It is my hope that this audit will identify any possible areas of concern and resolve any problems that arise. We have a duty, not only as legislators, but as Americans to ensure that those who risk their lives for our country receive the highest level of care,” stated Senator Cowles.
