With illegal immigration and the border crisis front of mind for many Americans, the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety heard testimony on legislation to ensure cooperation between local Sheriffs’ offices and federal immigration officials.

Offices in the Wisconsin State Senate have plenty to do, especially at the start of the legislative session. Maggie Flanagan, a UW-Madison student from Waukesha, is continuing her first-hand look at the process in the office of State Senator Julian Bradley.

In the leadup to last November’s election, we were reminded on an almost daily basis of the divisions that exist in our society. After a while, it may have become hard to believe that we agree on much of anything. But what if I told you there was an issue on which 81% of Americans agreed? You’d probably ask what topic could unify people that strongly. The answer? Requiring a photo ID to vote. 

This week, Senator Julian Bradley welcomed Waterford High School Junior Kegan Flood to the Capitol as part of the 2025 Senate Scholar Program. Kegan is joining a handful of high school juniors and seniors from across Wisconsin to participate in an intensive program that introduces students to state government.  

State Representative David Steffen (R-Howard) and State Senator Julian Bradley (R-New Berlin) are taking key steps to promote nuclear power in Wisconsin. The two legislators, who chair their respective chambers’ energy-related committees, have introduced a resolution declaring Wisconsin’s commitment to developing and investing in nuclear energy. Moving forward, the pair will author proposals to enact a nuclear siting study and convene a nuclear summit in Wisconsin.

Senator Julian Bradley (R-New Berlin) is seeking nominations for a new monthly award aimed at showing appreciation for people making a difference in their communities.

An amendment to enshrine Wisconsin’s voter ID law in the state constitution is expected to pass the State Senate today and the Assembly in the near future. Passage of the amendment by the legislature and a future vote of the people would ensure that this partisan court can’t overturn current law, which first passed more than a decade ago.

As we take our first steps into 2025, I want to reflect on the progress we’ve made in Wisconsin, while also outlining my priorities for the year ahead. Serving in the State Senate is an honor, and I’m determined to ensure that our state remains on a path that leads to a more prosperous future where the American Dream is within everyone’s reach.  

State Senator Julian Bradley kicked off his second term by taking the oath of office on Monday. Bradley, who won re-election by a nearly 30,000 vote margin, will have an enhanced role in 2025.

From healthcare and education to business and law enforcement – artificial intelligence (AI) has the capacity to impact many facets of our lives. For the past several months, I’ve chaired a study committee tasked with analyzing AI’s potential and making recommendations for how it should be regulated. This committee brought together legislators from both parties and members of the public, many of whom are professionals in the tech sector. Together, we travelled the state, heard from experts, and developed a set of recommendations that should drive the discussion on how Wisconsin will handle the opportunities and challenges that AI presents.
