I am honored to stand beside my friends and colleagues to take my oath of office. I am very proud to now hold the seat that was held by such Democratic champions as Senator Russ Feingold, State Senator Joe Wineke, and my predecessor State Senator Jon Erpenbach.

I want to congratulate Secretary Mary Kolar on an amazing career. I first met Secretary Kolar years ago and she was instrumental in getting my first veterans bill passed in my first term. She has been a strong supporter of veterans and worked hard to improve the life of every single veteran.

Today, Senator-Elect Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) was appointed by Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) as the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Health and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

I’m pleased to be selected by my new colleagues to serve as Senate Minority Caucus Vice-Chair. I am looking forward to working together with them to advance progressive priorities like nonpartisan redistricting, reproductive freedom, and free and fair elections.

Rep. Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) applauded the announcement this week by Governor Tony Evers of a $10 million investment in veterans programs in Wisconsin, following the recommendations made last month by the governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Veteran Opportunity.

Abortion is healthcare and a majority of Wisconsinites are incredibly frustrated by the complete lack of action by my Republican colleagues to listen to their voices. I’m proud to stand with Governor Evers in creating a pathway to repeal Wisconsin’s criminal abortion ban.

“This is a game changer for Wisconsinites,” said Hesselbein who served on the Governor’s Task Force on Student Debt and is the Ranking Democrat on the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities.
