I want to congratulate Representative Dave Considine on an amazing career and thank him for his service to the state of Wisconsin. As Rep. Considine and I would travel through the district together, we met countless constituents and neighbors who always had a great story to share about how Dave and his team helped them.

Wisconsinites have made it very clear that they do not want political games. They want fair maps. With his veto today, Governor Evers continues to listen to the will of the people and will not stand for gerrymandering in Wisconsin.

Senator Taylor is a fierce and effective advocate for the people of Milwaukee and her dedication to her community is unmatched. I am confident that the Senator will diligently fulfill the duties of a Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge because of her equitable pursuit of justice and commitment to the truth.

Governor Evers' priorities align with the values that the vast majority of Wisconsinites hold near to them. There are so many actions that we must take before this legislative session adjourns to support Wisconsinites, improve the lives of people residing here, and attract new families and individuals to our state. 

Today marks the 51^st Anniversary of the monumental Supreme Court ruling, Roe v. Wade, protecting a person’s constitutional right to choose. Unfortunately, that right was stripped away from millions of people when right-wing extremists on the US Supreme Court overturned Roe in 2022. Now, Wisconsin Republicans are again attempting to roll back abortion access. 

With limited session days remaining, I am disappointed by the lackluster calendar that was before us today. We’ve recently seen our neighboring states enact meaningful legislation that prioritizes the real needs of their residents.

Today Senator Tim Carpenter (Milwaukee), Senator Chris Larson (Milwaukee), Senator Mark Spreitzer (Beloit), Senator Dianne Hesselbein (Middleton), and Senator Jeff Smith (Brunswick)—the five Senate Democrats named in the lawsuit— filed their proposed remedial map (linked below) and released the following statement

As parents, we both recognize the financial challenges that families and individuals face when pursuing their career paths after high school. We are proud to put forward legislation that eases that cost burden and encourages our young people to chase their dreams.

There is absolutely no room for any politician to insert themselves in the private medical discussions between a patient and their trusted physician, and they certainly should not pretend to know more about providing medical care than the doctors who underwent years of schooling and professional training.

With a thoughtful, fact-based and straightforward ruling, the Wisconsin Supreme Court confirmed what most of us have known for more than a decade - the state's current legislative maps are unconstitutional and unacceptable.
