Today, the Assembly Committee on Colleges & Universities took a vote on Assembly Bill 195 (AB 195) in Executive Session. AB 195 relates to preventing transgender youth from participating in college sports based on their identified gender.

Speaker Robin Vos, Chair of the Committee on Assembly Organization, issued a paper ballot to members of the committee to approve or deny authorization to hire legal counsel and employ investigators. The ballot issued today is another Republican attempt to sow doubt about the 2020 election.

Today, President John Johnson Sr. of Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians delivered the 17th annual Wisconsin State of the Tribes address at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Representative Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) issued the following statement in response:

I was happy to attend the swearing-in ceremony for our new Dane County Sheriff. As a former Dane County
Supervisor, I know the important contributions our sheriff makes to public safety but also the relationships of
trust that must be built with the community. I believe Sheriff Barrett is up to the challenge and will provide
inclusive leadership for Dane County.

“Our university system is an important part of the future of our state. When it comes to decision-making and
valuing our community of educators, faculty, staff, and students we cannot compromise the place they have at
the table. Our proposals work to restore trust and move our university system forward,” said Rep. Hesselbein

“We were in session again today, because my Republican colleagues are feeling the pressure for not providing any real relief for a year in response to this pandemic. Unfortunately, that means the State Assembly had to take up almost a dozen bills aimed at politicizing the Governor’s efforts to help Wisconsin families through this difficult time."
