Veterans and Military Personnel
It is a great honor to serve our stat's veterans and men and women in uniform on the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, and I am very proud to have the VA Medical Center and grounds in our district. Tremendous progress has been made towards the restoration of the Milwaukee Soldiers Home. Six buildings on their campus have been rehabilitated, including: Old Main; the Administration Building; the Catholic Chaplain's Quarters; and three duplexes. These buildings have been renovated to include 101 units of housing with supportive services for veterans who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and their families. Policies that I am supporting this session include: exempting active duty income from state income tax; increasing grant awards to county Veterans Services Organizations; reducing the threshold to claim the veterans and surviving spouses property tax credit; and funding to support the UW MIA Recovery and Identification Project, which finds and identifies missing military personnel from previous global conflicts. These missing men and women didn't give up on our country, and we shouldn't give up on them either!
