Dear friends and neighbors,
I hope that you are all anxiously preparing for time with your loved ones during the 2021 holiday season!
In addition to well wishes, I also wanted to provide some information for you regarding consumer protection, driving safety, and animal welfare during the Winter and Holiday season. While our communities flurry with anticipation and preparation, there are those who see this as an opportunity to catch the unsuspecting unaware.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) have provided several informational resources to help people prepare themselves against scams, and to respond to them if they think they might have been a victim, as well as how to care for indoor and outdoor pets and animals in extreme cold. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has helpful reminders about how to travel safely during extreme weather, and see the end for a little Something Special from Wisconsin.
Make sure that your donations are making it to the organization of your choice. DATCP and the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) worked together to provide information that may help you to avoid getting scammed and to help you rest assured that your charitable gifts are getting to the right place.

These are some good guidelines to follow while shopping online, and ways to identify potential online scams related to gift cards, in-demand products, as well as delivery confirmations.

Here you can find info and sign up for alerts related to scams that have been reported recently.
One of those lovely realities of living in our great state is the intimate knowledge that we all have about how to handle driving during extreme weather. But a reminder never hurts to double check your supplies and the state of your vehicle before conditions become challenging. Also remember that you can stay up to date on highway conditions by visiting 511wi.gov
In addition to protecting yourself from scams, it is also important to consider the health of our pets and animals in cold weather. Here are some tips to consider that may be useful for pets during the Winter months, especially if they are outdoor pets.
And lastly for a little fun, check out Something Special from Wisconsin for gift ideas that come from businesses right here in the Dairyland. Their curated gift boxes make wonderful family gifts and you know that you’re supporting our state’s economy with any purchase.
Stay safe and warm this Winter, and don’t forget to get your gifts purchased and in the mail early this year to make sure that they get to their intended recipient in time. I sincerely wish you a blessed yuletide and a happy new year!
