The Legislative Audit Bureau is a nonpartisan legislative service agency whose objective analysis and recommendations help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state government operations. The Bureau’s work helps legislators fulfill their responsibility to provide effective oversight of the executive and judicial branches of state government.

The Bureau employs:

Financial Auditors

who systematically examine the accounting records and financial statements of entities that receive public funds and perform reviews of government operations that promote good fiscal and management practices.

Information Technology Auditors

who conduct audits of the State’s data centers and information systems applications and practices.

Performance Evaluators

who conduct audits to determine whether programs are accomplishing their policy goals and program objectives and to identify areas in which improvements can be made in the efficiency and effectiveness of state administered programs.

Professional Staff

with skills in information technology and document production, who support the operations of the Bureau.

Achieve Your Potential

Each audit is conducted by a team of auditors or evaluators. Although team members work closely together, each staff member is responsible for a key aspect of an audit or audit section. Opportunities for leadership roles are also available. These roles develop on the basis of experience and can include leading an audit team or developing specialized skills in a specific area, including information technology auditing, data analyses, or compliance auditing.

We emphasize professional development by providing financial assistance for successful attainment of professional certifications and internal training on topics essential for auditing and evaluation. Our financial audit work is considered to be qualifying experience for CPA certification. Our training program also provides sufficient opportunities to fulfill ongoing CPA continuing education requirements.

New performance evaluators, financial auditors, information technology auditors, and compliance auditors experience an intensive onboarding process, which involves a mixture of orientation, formal and informal training, and a mentoring relationship with a more experienced staff member.
