Madison, WI – Today, Assembly Bill 245 was signed into law by Governor Tony Evers. Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) released the following statement following the signing of the bill:
“I am excited to see the shared revenue bill signed into law! This required extensive negotiations on both sides of the aisle to get Assembly Bill 245 to a point where it would become law. As a former Slinger village trustee and former Washington County Board supervisor, I understand how important the increase in shared revenue will be for local governments in my district. It means that new investments can be made in public safety, emergency medical services, and public works.”
Assembly Bill 245 creates a new Local Government Segregated Account with funding amounting to over $1.5 billion. It includes a new Innovation Fund, which will be a $300 million pilot program to incentivize communities to consolidate services and find efficiencies. Some major policy items within the legislation include repealing the personal property tax and reining in the powers of public health officials to close businesses.
The bill provides the following increases in shared revenue funds for communities in the 58th Assembly District, according to a memorandum from the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau:
