MADISON – State Representative Rick Gundrum released the following statement on the outcome of today’s extraordinary session:

“I would like to thank the constituents and stakeholders who contacted my office leading up to and following the release of the extraordinary session bills last Friday. While the abbreviated timeline for evaluating and acting upon the proposals was certainly not ideal, the input I received from many individuals and organizations throughout the process was appreciated. In the days leading up to the extraordinary session, I sought to prioritize the codification of reforms that had received the support of the legislative majority before going into effect over the last several years.

After working through the hours of the late night and early morning, I believe that my colleagues and I were able to identify and adopt a series of measures that will better align Wisconsin’s co-equal branches of government with the system of checks and balances originally envisioned by our Founders. It is my sincerest hope that these reforms persist far beyond the upcoming 2019-20 legislative session. By approving the amended versions of Senate Bills 883, 884 and 886, I am confident that the appropriate balance will be struck between preserving legislative intent and ensuring the prerogatives of the Executive Branch remain intact.
