Slinger, WI - Following the official implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement taking effect today Wednesday, July 1, State Assembly Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) issued the following statement:
“During these times of economic uncertainty following the COVID-19 pandemic, this bipartisan agreement’s ratification is welcome news to businesses in the 58th Assembly District. The United States, Mexico, and Canada can finally move ahead with a trade deal that will benefit millions of workers in all three countries.
“Canada and Mexico are vital trading partners for our food, manufacturing, and agricultural products. This agreement will promote job creation, bolster domestic manufacturing, incentivize new investments, and expand market access.
“The workers of Wisconsin sent $10.5 billion in exports to Canada and Mexico in 2018. The Dairy State will benefit from the end of Canada’s milk pricing practice which unfairly lowered dairy ingredient prices to undersell the United States. We should all be very happy with this new economic cooperation in North America.”
The bipartisan USMCA was initially signed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico on November 30, 2018. It marks a new era in trade relations between these three countries.
