Oak Creek, WI – Earlier this afternoon, State Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) joined Assembly Republicans from southeast Wisconsin calling on Governor Evers to direct unused federal funds Wisconsin was given from the Federal CARES Act to be directed immediately to Wisconsinites who have been asking the Evers Administration for unemployment assistance.

Many of my constituents are facing severe financial hardship because they were furloughed or lost their job due to COVID-19 and the stay-at-home order. These workers became unemployed literally overnight through no fault of their own, and it’s unacceptable for them to wait month after month after month for help,” said Rep. Gundrum.

Almost 150,000 individuals across our state have applied for unemployment insurance and are still waiting for their claims to be processed. Our neighbors need help now, they cannot continue to wait for Governor Evers to figure out how to efficiently run his administration. That is why we are taking action now and proposing this plan so families can put food on the table, make the monthly mortgage payment, and cover other necessities.”

These funds would provide those waiting for their unemployment claim to be adjudicated with swift financial relief directly helping those who have been left behind by the Evers Administration.

Republican lawmakers called on Governor Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to expand call center hours and be open seven days a week with extended weekend hours to handle the increased caseload.

I sincerely hope that Governor Evers implements this program immediately so that hard-working Wisconsinites can get help before it’s too late.”
