Rep. Dallman Stands with Parents and Votes in Favor of Parent Bill of Rights

Madison, WI – This afternoon, Rep. Alex Dallman (R-Green Lake) voted in favor of Assembly Bill 510 which prohibits the state from infringing on certain fundamental rights of parents when it comes to raising their children.

“I am proud to vote in favor of this ‘Parent Bill of Rights’ and stand with parents across Wisconsin,” said Rep. Dallman. “I believe and trust wholeheartedly that parents know what is best for their children, not the government. It is clear that my Democrat colleagues don’t trust parents to make the right decision for their children, especially when it comes to their education.”

AB 510 establishes sixteen rights that are reserved explicitly to the parent of a child without any infringement from an entity of the State of Wisconsin, such as a school board or superintendent. These rights include the right of the parent to determine the religion of their child, the right to review instructional materials used by the child’s school, as well as the right to be notified of health services offered at a child’s school and to withhold consent or decline any specific service.

AB 510 passed along party lines with 62 Republican ayes and 35 Democratic noes, with one Democratic member shouting during the debate, “Parents do NOT know best.”
