Rep. Dallman Authors Foreign Adversary Legislation

Madison, WI --- State Representative Alex Dallman (R-Green Lake) recently introduced Assembly Bill 1090 (AB 1090), which will prohibit any public entity from contracting with certain U.S. foreign adversaries such as the People’s Republic of China, Russia, Iran, and others.

AB 1090 will protect Wisconsinites from taxpayer funds being used to purchase People’s Republic of China-Owned or any affiliated manufacturer technology. In recent years, the State of Wisconsin has spent nearly $5 million in Chinese-owned technology. This practice has made Wisconsinite’s data and infrastructure more vulnerable to infiltration.

“The State of Wisconsin should not be purchasing any technology from foreign countries who want to undermine the United States,” said Representative Dallman. “The People’s Republic of China is a real threat to our nation’s infrastructure and data. Wisconsin should not be funding our country’s adversaries.”

Nine other states have already enacted laws or executive orders to restrict the purchase of technology that is known to be susceptible to infiltration and is an active threat to our research, data, and financial information.

“This is a commonsense bill that will protect our country and Wisconsin from real threats that are happening every single day by adversary governments like the People’s Republic of China and Russia. I am proud to author and lead this legislation,” said Representative Dallman.
