Look at what's happening in Oostburg! Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch (second from left in the photo) stopped by the future site of Masters Gallery Foods' new packaging and distribution facility which, as of Wednesday, is officially under construction. 2017 Wisconsin Act 1, authored by Sen. Devin LeMahieu and me, was literally the legislature's first item of business in Madison this spring and helped to ensure that this project would move forward. The new facility is expected to be operational within less than a year and will employ 120 to 150 people; the company's master plans include further expansion in the future as well. Thank you, Master's Gallery Foods, for investing in Sheboygan County!

Coming Soon: Sheboygan County Dairy Breakfast
I'll be waking up early next weekend, on Saturday, June 17th, for "Breakfast on the Farm" fundraiser hosted by the Sheboygan County Dairy Promotion Association. Breakfast will be served (rain or shine!) from 7:00 AM until noon. This year, the first 300 kids age 10 and under receive a free T-shirt with the donation of a nonperishable food item. Tickets will be available at the door, but they're cheaper if you buy them in advance! Complete details are available online and on Facebook.

Assembly Education Plan Announced
 This week, Assembly Republicans announced our proposal for improving upon Governor Scott Walker's K-12 education funding plan.
Just like the Governor's plan, our plan guarantees that every school district in the state will receive a meaningful increase in state funding. It actually puts more money in the classroom than the Governor's plan even though our plan costs less overall. Our plan keeps Republicans' promise to drive property taxes down, not up. This memo spells out the details of how we can achieve this.
Best of all, in my opinion, are the steps that this plan takes toward leveling the very uneven playing field that is our school funding formula. The levy limits that have been in place for many years have been useful, but they have left many of the most frugal, responsible, low-spending school districts (including several school districts in Sheboygan County) struggling to keep up with the higher spenders. The Assembly plan announced this week would "reward" these school districts and begin to correct the imbalance, providing a larger share of the new state funding to the low spenders first. Conversation among the Assembly, the Senate and the Governor continues as we work on a plan that benefits all Wisconsin students.
