Let each remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual - or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.

Samuel Adams, letter to The Boston Gazette, April 16, 1781

An important statewide election is coming up on Tuesday, April 5th, just 15 days from today.  Depending on exactly where you live, your ballot is likely to include candidates for city/village/town council, county board, school board or judge; all Wisconsin ballots will also include candidates for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice and party nomination for U.S. President.  I urge you to educate yourself about the offices and the candidates and to make time to participate in this most essential duty of citizenship.

One way to educate yourself now is to visit My Vote Wisconsin.  Simply enter your full name and date of birth to view your voter profile and access many other helpful resources.  I particularly appreciate the "What's On My Ballot" and "Where Do I Vote" sections (on the left side of the screen) that tell me exactly what to expect on Election Day.  Another helpful resource entitled "Bring It to the Ballot" answers your questions about Wisconsin's photo ID requirement; click here for a list of acceptable identification at the polls.  New this year, veteran ID cards may be used as photo identification on Election Day.

As always, I encourage you to follow my updates on social media or contact my office directly with your questions, comments and suggestions.  Best wishes on the week ahead!

Road Construction Alert

Road construction is scheduled to begin in mid-April 2016 on the half-mile section of State Highway 28 where it intersects I-43 and S. Taylor Drive on the southern side of Sheboygan.  During the summer months, there will be periodic closures of the on- and off-ramps for I-43.  State Highway 28 will remain open to traffic but will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  Work is expected to be completed by October 2016.  Please click here for further construction details, detour maps and schedule updates as work proceeds.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites business owners affected by the construction project and ramp closures to attend a question-and-answer meeting on Monday, March 28th from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM at the Kiwanis Fieldhouse, 726 Park Drive, Sheboygan.  WisDOT engineers and representatives from the road construction contractor will be on hand to discuss the project.  Additional planning resources and tips for businesses and community leaders are also available through WisDOT's "In This Together" program.
