Child Care

STABILIZED THE CHILDCARE INDUSTRY

  • Stabilized the child care industry without making pandemic-era handouts permanent
  • Provided bridge funding until a new community-based 4K child care system can begin operating in the 2nd year of the biennium
    • The new, community-based child care system is modeled after the successful school choice program
  • Increased Wisconsin Shares to the 75th percentile of market rates
  • Meaningful reforms to the child care system will create new slots and make child care more affordable:
    • A 2-year pilot program to increase teacher: student ratios
    • Creating accreditation for Large Family Care Centers
    • Allow child care centers to hire students at least 16 years old who have begun to take early childhood education classes as assistant teachers
    • Continues updating the child support portal — Kids Information Data System (KIDS) — to match parents seeking child care with qualified centers
