Over $2 billion in tax increases and $20 billion in new spending; it's easy to see why the legislature is building this year's budget from base. Governor Evers has always larded up his budget proposals with liberal policy, tax increases, and new spending - but this  was a stretch even for him.

Reminder: Budget Listening Session this Friday at State Fair Park!!

The legislature has begun the process of crafting the state budget - and we want you to be a part of it. I and the rest of the Joint Committee on Finance will be at State Fair Park from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. this Friday to hold a listening session. Of all the budget listening sessions the committee will be holding throughout the state, this will be the closest to the 28th Senate District. Come to the Exposition Center at 640 South 84th Street in West Allis and let us know how you want your tax dollars managed. Parking will be available at Gate 4.

Voter ID in the Constitution?

Photo identification is a fundamental part of daily life, yet critics maintain that requiring a photo ID to vote is racist. On April 1st, Wisconsin voters will have the chance to weigh in by casting a ballot either for or against adding a photo ID requirement for voting to the state constitution. In the video above, I share some facts on Voter ID and let you know how the question will appear on your ballot in April.

Getting the Job Done.

In my last newsletter, I asked if you agreed that Wisconsin sheriffs should cooperate with ICE to ensure that illegal immigrants accused of felonies are held accountable.

Well, the results are in, and over 80% of respondents agree that this is the right approach. I've authored a bill to make this a reality, and that bill received a hearing in the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety last Wednesday.

Is Governor Evers Putting Partisanship Over Public Safety?

Oakfield, Prairie du Chien, Abbotsford, ... the list goes on. Incidents of illegal aliens committing felonies are happening across the country and in our Wisconsin communities. That's why I authored a bill to ensure that Wisconsin Sheriffs notify federal officials to ensure that justice is done. It's simple - If an illegal alien commits a felony, ICE needs to know.

What Does Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mean to Us Today?

Thirty-nine years. That's all the time Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had on this earth, but he used that short time to make a big impact. 

Dr. King fought segregation and racism, challenging America to live up to its founding principles. He understood America's unique place in the world as the only country founded on an idea; that all are equal, created by God, with rights that no one can take away.

Yes for Election Security, Yes for Voter ID!

Following last week's vote in the Senate, today the Assembly will bring an amendment that I co-authored to the floor that would enshrine Wisconsin’s voter ID law in the state constitution. Passage by the legislature and a statewide vote by the people this April would ensure that our partisan Supreme Court couldn't overturn our current law, which first passed more than a decade ago

Below you will see the Capitol decorations are starting to take shape. Every year, elementary students across the state submit ornaments to be hung on the Capitol Christmas Tree. This year, we have three ornaments that are highlighted in the Capitol Showcase from Waterford and Mukwonago. Well done, students!

Thanksgiving has a long history in America, but it wasn’t until 1863, during the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln issued the first national Thanksgiving proclamation. Despite the challenges of war, President Lincoln emphasized the importance of giving thanks for the blessings we enjoy.
