In a move the legislators noted should be straightforward and common sense, Sen. Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) and Rep. Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) today circulated legislation that would bar fake electors who actively sought to disenfranchise Wisconsin voters from serving in an official role regulating elections, notably the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

The idea for this legislation was brought to me in 2020 by a constituent who is also a veteran and works with service members enrolling in secondary education. I am proud to be a part of this common-sense, bipartisan proposal to improve college accessibility for members of the Wisconsin National Guard.

Yesterday, Senate Republicans presumably adjourned for the year, despite numerous session days remaining until April 11. Not only did Republicans end their legislative work weeks early, but they adjourned without finishing the business on the calendar.

Today, Senate Republicans rejected eight more well-qualified appointees from serving the State of Wisconsin. The total number of executive appointments rejected by the State Senate this session is now 20.

I support providing targeted tax relief to those who need breathing room in their household budgets, but the plan proposed by Republicans is fiscally irresponsible, largely benefitting those making over $100,000 and likely putting our state at a multi-billion dollar deficit in just a few years.

Abortion care is healthcare. Wisconsin Democrats will never stop fighting to protect that right for individuals throughout our state. While a recent court ruling restored abortion access in Wisconsin, this freedom continues to be threatened by Republicans and hyper-conservative groups at all levels of government.

The maps signed into law today signify a huge win for the people of Wisconsin. For more than a decade, issues that Wisconsinites cared deeply about were largely ignored because Republicans had rigged the redistricting process.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two of our Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District students. This is an incredibly sad time for the school and community. Our thoughts go to the loved ones of these children and all those impacted.

Wisconsin Republicans had an opportunity to show they weren’t extremists like their national counterparts, but they chose to double down on their anti-choice, anti-woman, and anti-freedom position.
