Tonight, Governor Evers made it clear - Wisconsinites are tired of being nickeled and dimed. The Governor’s budget proposal will help lower everyday costs for working people and improve the lives of residents across our state.

As Senators and Representatives representing thousands of constituents across our state, and elected officials who care about the livelihoods of every Wisconsinite and the health of our democracy, we write today with a deep sense of alarm about the Trump Administration's recent actions and their impact on everyday Americans.

This week, a coalition of congressional leaders, including Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), introduced the federal Right to Contraception Act that would create a statutory right for individuals to obtain and use contraception and for health care providers to provide it.  Similar state-level legislation to establish the Right to Contraception in Wisconsin was introduced by Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) and Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) last year

To the Honorable Members of Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation: We urge you to take bi-partisan action to oppose unprecedented cuts to Medicaid (MA), which would negatively affect millions of Wisconsin residents – urban and rural, Republican and Democrat, young and old. 

Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn should announce his intention to recuse himself from the pending Act 10 lawsuit immediately. As former Governor Scott Walker’s chief legal counsel, Hagedorn was a key drafter of this legislation. The need for recusal in this case is extremely clear.

This month my Democratic colleagues and I put the finishing touches on the initial round of 2025 legislation that continues to place hardworking Wisconsinites first. Our legislative proposals address the genuine concerns expressed throughout the 2024 election campaign.

During the 2025 State of the State Address, Governor Evers declared 2025 the Year of the Kid. Senator Hesselbein (D-Middleton) thanked Governor Evers for focusing on one of Wisconsin’s most precious resources, our children. “An investment in our kids is an investment in our future. Well-nourished, well-educated, and well-cared-for children result in healthy, strong, and productive adults. Ensuring families can access affordable child care, quality public schools, and mental health care will make our state better for every person living here."

I am so proud of Nikhil and Blu for completing the Senate Scholar program. It is important for young people to engage with their government and be an active participant in the lawmaking process. Opportunities like this increase students' confidence and provide them with the tools necessary to influence the change they want to see in their communities. Keep up the good work, Nikhil and Blu.

Today, Legislative Democrats introduced the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives legislative
package. The proposal works to help Wisconsinites with rising costs by reducing the tax burden for fixed
and low-income renters and homeowners, cutting the costs of grocery bills for families, and decreasing
prescription drug prices.

“While Wisconsinites face cost-of-living challenges, grapple with gun violence in their communities, and struggle with health care access, Senate Republicans’ first action of the new year is a constitutional amendment, cementing what already exists in state law into Wisconsin's constitution in a show of partisan gamesmanship."
