MADISON — State Senator Kelda Roys (D-Madison) was reappointed to the Joint Committee on Finance by Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein on Tuesday. The 16-member committee is comprised of 12 Republicans and 4 Democrats – and 8 each of Senators and Assembly Representatives. The Committee, often referred to by the initials, “JFC,” is responsible for the biennial state budget as well as all state spending and revenue.

Sen. Roys issued the following statement:

“I am grateful to continue our work to make Wisconsin a place where everyone can thrive. Our state budget should enable us as Wisconsinites to have what we need from our state government, so we can build the lives we want. I am honored to serve on the Joint Finance Committee again.

“In the last budget, Wisconsinites made it abundantly clear they were feeling the pinch of the rising cost of housing, childcare, and healthcare. Instead of investing in those critical areas, Republican politicians tried to squander the surplus on even bigger tax breaks for millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations. Wisconsinites also want us to invest in public education, including K12 and our public universities, and local services. Instead, GOP legislators are forcing massive increases in property taxes, as communities have to go to referendum again and again just to keep the lights on.

“Now that we have fairer and more competitive legislative maps, and a legislature that more closely resembles the voters, I am hopeful that the needs and priorities of everyday Wisconsin will finally be reflected in our state budget.”
