Reproductive rights are necessary for freedom

One of my goals is to help bring awareness of reproductive freedom, and share pertinent information about what’s going on, with likeminded community leaders and activists.

MADISON — Today, Sen. Kelda Roys (D-Madison), Rep. Lisa Subeck, and Democratic legislators have mailed a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting medication abortion be made available over the counter. Here is an electronic copy of the letter: Letter to the FDA requesting medication abortion be made available over the counter. Their statements regarding the letter are below.

Sen. Kelda Roys:

“Medication abortion is safe and effective. It should be available over the counter for all Americans. Decades of evidence from the US and around the world demonstrate that medication abortion is a safe, highly effective way to end pregnancy, including misoprostol-only and mifepristone-misoprostol combination regimen.

We do not live in a free society if the government forces people to remain pregnant or give birth against their will.

Rep. Lisa Subeck:

“We live in a world in which activist judges and extremist politicians feel empowered to make our health care decisions for us, rather than allowing Americans the freedom to make those decisions for themselves.

Here, the FDA has an opportunity to return some level of reproductive freedom back to the American people. The science is clear: medication abortion is safe and it is effective, and the FDA should allow it to be sold over the counter.”
