Sen. Dassler-Alfheim welcomes Senate Scholar from Neenah to Capitol

MADISON, WI – Today, State Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim (D-Appleton) was pleased to welcome Nina Bhattacharjee, a member of this year’s cohort of Senate Scholars, to the Wisconsin State Capitol.

“This is my first time hosting a Senate Scholar in Madison, and I could not be more excited to welcome Ms. Bhattacharjee. With her demonstrated commitment to public service and civic engagement, she is a perfect fit for the Senate Scholars Program,” said the Senator.

Last summer, Bhattacharjee worked to develop a Citizenship Engagement Academy for residents in her role as an intern for the City of Neenah, and has worked with the League of Women Voters to establish a Youth Policy Team for Winnebago County. She is currently a senior at Neenah High School with plans to study political science in college.

“It’s always so encouraging to see young adults interested in government, and I hope Ms. Bhattacharjee’s participation in this program proves to be both educational and enjoyable,” said the Senator.

The Wisconsin Senate Scholars Program is an educational program offered by the Wisconsin State Senate. The week-long program is based in Madison and provides 33 high school juniors and seniors from across Wisconsin with a close-up view of the legislative process. Over the course of the program, students hear from Senators, staff, policy experts, and more on the role they play in the legislative process. Afterwards, students work together to draft a bill and participate in a mock committee hearing for their legislation. More information on the program can be found at www.senatescholar.com.
