Sen. Howard Marklein: State Senate Passes State Budget

Senate JFC Co-Chair Celebrates a Budget that is Made for Wisconsin

Madison, WI - Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green), Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC), made the following statement today following the Senate’s passage of the State Budget bill:

“I am very proud of the legislature’s state budget. Our budget is made for Wisconsin. We worked hard to fund our shared priorities and prepare for the future.

This budget provides significant investments in local, rural roads. Hospitals, nursing homes and personal care workers will all see an increase in funding. We invested in pay raises for Correctional staff, District Attorneys and Assistant District Attorneys, Public Defenders and State Patrol officers. We invested one-time money to reduce bonding and pay off debt.

We cut taxes by $4.4 billion for all taxpayers while funding education, healthcare, transportation, workforce housing, local governments, and much, much more. We did all of this with an eye toward the future and watching the checkbook.

I am very proud of our work on the state budget. We had a lot of very important factors to consider and I believe we have done a good job of balancing the priorities of the people of Wisconsin.”
