As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, 2026, we pause to honor the life, leadership and enduring legacy of Dr. King, a champion for justice, equality, and service to others. Dr. King reminded us that life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” His words challenge each of us to pursue peace through action, compassion, and community building. 

Senator Ratcliff delivered powerful testimony in opposition to Senate Bill 405, legislation that would restrict access to gender-affirming care for Wisconsin youth. In her remarks, Senator Ratcliff emphasized that the bill places politics above medical expertise and undermines the ability of parents, children, and healthcare providers to make informed decisions about a child’s wellbeing.

Wisconsin has over 300,000 veterans and the legislative proposals in the Veterans Promise Package includes: recover and identify veterans missing in action, provide grants to community-based and emergency crisis mental-health services and designate Veterans Day (November 11) as a state holiday in Wisconsin. 

Senator Melissa Ratcliff recently joined a bipartisan group of legislators, community leaders, and transportation advocates on a passenger rail ride from the Columbus Amtrak station to Tomah. The event highlighted the importance of strengthening Wisconsin’s rail infrastructure, expanding passenger rail service, and connecting more communities across the state.

Governor Tony Evers signed 16 bills into law, marking a significant legislative action in Wisconsin. These measures span various sectors, including healthcare, education, and public safety, reflecting a bipartisan effort to address pressing state issues. 

Senator Melissa Ratcliff recently joined the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association (WTBA) for a site tour of the ongoing Hwy 51 work zone project in Stoughton. The tour offered a firsthand look at one of the region’s most significant infrastructure upgrades and highlighted the collaborative effort between state leaders, local officials, and industry professionals to enhance roadway safety and efficiency in Dane County.

Access to reliable, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity! In Senate District 16 and across the state, several communities still face challenges with inadequate internet connectivity, hindering opportunities in education, healthcare, and economic development. Senator Ratcliff emphasized that any reductions or continuous delays in BEAD Program funding will exacerbate these disparities. 

As a proud mom of two, Mother’s Day holds a special place in my heart. It’s a day to honor the incredible women who guide, nurture, and inspire us. This year, the celebration feels even more meaningful as we mark a significant milestone for maternal health in our state– the expansion of Medicaid postpartum coverage.
