Our children deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams without financial barriers. For babies born to Medicaid-eligible families in Wisconsin, the state would invest in bonds worth $3,000. Access to these funds would be granted at age 18, allowing the money to be used to buy a home, pursue higher education, start a business, contribute toward retirement or investments, or pay for childcare.
Baby Bonds will help to level the playing field at a time when income inequality is increasing at an alarming rate, especially in communities of color that have been harmed by historic economic injustices. Through this early investment, children for generations to come will have the economic foundation and stability to achieve the things we should all be able to attain: the ability to create a business, purchase a home, and pursue a higher education.
