About Chris

Chris Larson was born and raised in Milwaukee County. Chris graduated from Thomas More High School, where he was captain of the Cross Country team and learned to love Wisconsin’s unique beauty by running every part of the south side. He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and graduated with a degree in Finance and a minor in Political Science.

Chris managed a sporting goods chain specializing in running, consulting with amateurs and professionals to help them improve their training. In 2008, he successfully ran for Milwaukee County Supervisor on a platform of fully funding our parks and transit system.

After defeating an entrenched incumbent from his own party during the 2010 Fall Primary, Chris was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate on November 2, 2010. Chris served as Senate Democratic Leader during the 2013-2014 Legislative Session. After winning re-election to a fourth term in November of 2022, Chris was elected by his peers to the position of Democratic Caucus Chair for the 2023-2024 legislative session. 

Chris resides in Bay View with his wife Jessica and their son Atticus and daughter Stella. An avid runner, Chris has completed over 30 marathons and has a long-term goal of running a marathon in every state.



Community Involvement 

Chris is active in his community as a member of numerous neighborhood groups, including: American Civil Liberties Union; UW-Milwaukee Alumni Association Board Member 2013-2019; Citizen Action of Wisconsin Co-op Founding Member; Community Board Member of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study; Wisconsin Conservation Voters; League of Conservation Voters; Bay View Neighborhood Association; Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin; Sierra Club; Humboldt Park Friends; South Side Business Club of Milwaukee; Bay View Historical Society; Arbor Day Foundation; Tri-Wisconsin; Badgerland Striders; Bay View Lions Club; Lake Park Friends; MPTV Friends. He is a former member of: the Airport Area Economic Development Group; Young Elected Officials; Coalition to Save the Hoan Bridge (cofounder); and WISPIRG (campus intern).

Committee Work

Chris currently serves as ranking Democrat on the Education and Universities and Revenue Committees, dealing with important issues like school and higher education funding, as well as tax policy. He also serves on the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR), and Joint Committee on Information Policy and Technology.
