“Safety First, Correcting Corrections by Limiting Overtime”

(MADISON) – Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) offered a motion to incorporate provisions of 2015 Senate Bill 610. This motion would prohibit a corrections employee from working more than two consecutive shifts. Following the committee session, Senator Taylor offerred the following comments:

“We have to remember that when a corrections officer has been working more than 16 consecutive hours, we are putting the health of our officers and the safety of our incarcerated population at risk. It is a shame that Governor Walker has repeatedly moved against the interests of correctional officers and it is a shame that Finance Republicans join him in this short-sighted venture.”
