Joint Finance Committee Co-Chair to Attend Milwaukee Event
MADISON – On Friday, Senator Mark Miller (D-Monona), the co-Chair of the State Joint Finance Committee, will be the special guest at a meeting of the Milwaukee Unity Caucus. Senator Miller will attend the meeting at the request of Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and Representative Pedro Colón (D-Milwaukee).
“Senator Miller is one of the progressive leaders of our state,” said Senator Taylor, “not to mention co-chair of the most powerful committee in the Legislature. That’s why Representative Colón and I made an extra effort to ensure that he heard from Milwaukee legislators about the unique challenges confronting our city. We’re extremely pleased that he took us up on our invitation to tomorrow’s event.”
The Unity Caucus is a group of Milwaukee elected officials from all levels of government—state, county, and city. The Caucus meets regularly to discuss issues affecting Milwaukee and to take a proactive stance in solving the city’s problems. The idea at each meeting is to generate cooperative solutions among Milwaukee politicians and business leaders, rather than leaving them to work independently.
“Every member of the caucus brings a different perspective to the table,” noted Representative Colón. “This way, Senator Miller can hear, firsthand, about the impact of statewide fiscal policies on local government. I hope the process will be as beneficial for him as it has been for me and Senator Taylor.”
The Unity Caucus meets monthly. This Friday’s meeting will run from 12:00p-1:15p at Garfield 502 Restaurant, located at 502 Garfield Ave in Milwaukee.
