Conservation Congress County Meeting on April 8th

The annual meeting of the Kenosha Conservation Congress will be on Monday, April 8th, 2013 at 7:00 pm. At the meeting, citizens will have the opportunity to provide input to the Department of Natural Resources about proposed rule changes relating to fish and wildlife management in Wisconsin. The Kenosha County meeting will take place at Bristol Elementary School's Gymnasium, 20121 83rd St, Bristol. County residents will also elect delegates to the state Conservation Congress. I encourage anyone interested in these issues to attend the meeting. More information can be found at the DNR website.

Governor Signs Audit Reform Into Law

Last week, Governor Walker signed 2013 Wisconsin Act 8, which modernizes the laws governing the Audit Bureau. As the co-chair of the Audit Committee, I worked hard on this bill, and was pleased that it smoothly made its way though the legislative process. Previously, the laws contained more than 40 requirements for specific audits, some of which were outdated, completed, or did not reflect our priorities.  This law gives the Audit Committee more flexibility to work with the Audit Bureau on the most important and urgent audits of state agencies as spending concerns come to light. Submit an Application for a Youth As Resources Grant

A program of UW Extension and the United Way, Youth As Resources (YAR) is a grant-giving program that funds youth-driven projects to help our community.  YAR has extended the deadline for applications for 2013 grants for youth-led community service projects in Kenosha County.  If you know a youth who has a great idea for a community project, encourage them to apply. Projects may be awarded grants of up to $500. The Kenosha County Extension office has more information about this wonderful program.
