The Assembly Democratic Caucus offers a range of opportunities for those interested in public service to engage with the State Legislature. From internships, fellowships, to full-time employment, we are looking for individuals with a passion for serving Wisconsinites to join our team!

The Assembly Democratic Caucus is looking for students or recent graduates who are interested in getting first-hand experience working in legislative offices. Internships with an Assembly Democratic office provide valuable, hands-on involvement in the political process and a behind-the-scenes look at office operations. During their internships, interns have the opportunity to work closely with staff and legislators, attend committee hearings and legislative proceedings, and build a personal network in Wisconsin politics.

We are looking for interns with strong writing skills, familiarity with state politics, and passion for assisting constituents. Interns are expected to work 8-20 hours per week between the hours of 9 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Internships are unpaid but students can receive course credit for their work.

There are three internships sessions each year:

Spring Semester Internships (January to May)
Summer Internships (May to August)
Fall Semester Internships (August to December)

The Wisconsin Assembly Democratic Fellowship Program is aimed at promoting career opportunities and learning experiences for historically under-represented communities including racial/ethnic minorities, women, people with disabilities, and veterans.

Legislative fellows will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects related to diverse policy issues and regional concerns. Responsibilities in this role will include various tasks such as constituent casework, committee tracking, press monitoring, and legislative research.

Qualifications

A desire to be engaged in the political process
Good interpersonal communications skills
An ability to work well in a team setting
High level organizational and time management skills
Be enrolled and/or attend a two or four year college/university or a vocational/technical school program.
Prior political office experience is not required.

Fellows will be expected to work at least 20 hours a week based on their availability and will earn $15 an hour.
