Rep. Neylon Issues Statement on Elections Commission’s Absentee Ballot Emergency Rule

Madison – Today State Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) issued the following statement regarding the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s recent ballot curing emergency rule:

“WEC once again shows its lack of concern for Wisconsin law. By requiring clerks to perform ballot curing actions that are not required or authorized in statute, WEC has implemented a rule overstepping their legal authority. The emergency rule, which does not allow for legislative review before being enacted, provides processes for unilateral ballot curing by clerks that are not authorized in statute.”

“WEC’s rule imposes additional requirements on clerks that are illegal and were never intended by the Legislature. I will be working with my JCRAR Co-Chair to bring a motion before the committee to strike down this unlawful emergency rule.”
