Friends and Neighbors,

As I mentioned in my last full newsletter installment, this is the last e-update you will be receiving from me until November. This being an election year, I am prohibited by law to send more than 49 substantially similar pieces of mail after April 15. That said, please continue to contact me with questions, comments and concerns, and I will gladly provide legislative updates on a case-by-case basis. I will also be keeping my Facebook page up to date, which is a great resource for timely updates.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. You can always contact my office by calling (608) 266-5780 or emailing me at Rep.Billings@legis.wi.gov.

Please continue reading for brief local and statewide updates.

Best Wishes,

Jill Billings
State Representative
95th Assembly District

Research in the Rotunda

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to hear from a number of UW-L students who came to the Capitol to present their research to legislators and staff. The students' work ranged from archeology and new approaches to treating Alzheimer's, to using drones to study the effects of climate changes and methods of decreasing academic achievement gaps. I am always so impressed with how smart and professional UW-L students are. Thank you for sharing your research!

Conservation Congress Results

On Monday, April 9, more than 6,800 people attended the 2018 statewide Spring Fish and Wildlife Public Hearing and Wisconsin Conservation Congress meeting. The meeting for La Crosse County was held at Onalaska High School Performing Arts Center. These meetings, held simultaneously throughout the state, gave citizens the opportunity to provide input and give feedback to the Department of Natural Resources, as well as submit resolutions for future changes. Changes relating to fishing and wildlife management in Wisconsin were proposed and voted on by all 72 counties. Some of the issues that La Crosse County voted yes on that were also voted yes by statewide consensus were:

  • Establishing a funding source for management of state public lands

  • Restricting transportation of deer harvested in chronic waste disease affected county to within t-he County or to an adjacent county.

  • Supporting legislation to reduce the risk of climate change through increased use of renewable resources

  • Requiring both insurance and CPR/first aid training for Wisconsin Guide License holders
If you would like to see a full list of the results, county or statewide, they can be found on this website.

A template and instructions for submitting a resolution are also available on the DNR website.
