Representative Emerson was elected to represent the 91st State Assembly District in 2018, for the seat formerly held by Representative Dana Wachs who vacated it to run for governor. She was born in Eau Claire and graduated Eau Claire Memorial High School then went on to study biotechnology at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Representative Emerson became a staunch anti-human trafficking advocate leading to her involvement in many community organizations. Representative Emerson was a member of the Wisconsin Human Trafficking Advisory Council; Wisconsin Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force; Wisconsin Parent Teacher Association; Girl Scouts; and Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association Steering Committee.

She is currently a member of the Governor’s Council of Migrant Labor,  Wisconsin Anti-Human Trafficking Consortium and board member for the Wisconsin Women’s Council. Currently serves on the following committees: Ranking Democrat on Colleges and Universities; Ranking Democrat on Rural Development; Criminal Justice and Public Safety; Housing and Real Estate.
