A Note from Rep. Edming

Thank you for taking some time out of your day to read this week's edition of my e-update. I hope you find it informative. I am excited to announce that my office is accepting nominations for the 2021 First Responder of the Year Award. You can read more about this and more below.

There are also some awesome community events coming up over the next few weeks around the 87th District. For more information, check out the Upcoming Events Around the 87th section of my update.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any thoughts on issues before the legislature or if you need assistance with a state agency.

Honoring Our First Responders

I am pleased to share that my office is now accepting nominations for the 2021 First Responder of the Year Award. This award highlights the great work the brave men and women of our emergency services are doing in our communities. If you know of a first responder (firefighter, police officer, EMS personnel) in the 87th Assembly District who embodies community service, selflessness, and dedication, I encourage you to nominate them for this award. One deserving individual will be selected and invited down to the State Capitol in October to be honored for their work. You can click here to fill out the online nomination form or here to print the paper nomination form and mail it to my office at the address below.

Rep. James Edming
PO Box 8952
Madison, WI 53708-8952

Nominations must be received by Friday, October 8th, 2021.

Draw Your District Reminder

As I shared in my e-update a few weeks ago, the legislature is accepting submissions from the public in the map-drawing process. Every ten years after the completion of the US Census the state legislature is charged with drawing new maps for legislative and congressional districts for our state. The legislature has launched a website for members of the public to participate in the map-drawing process. Submissions are currently being accepted until October 15th, 2021.

Down at the Capitol

Consumer Protection Committee

Earlier this week, I was down at the Capitol in Madison for some meetings including a public hearing in the Consumer Protection Committee. We heard testimony on three bills, Assembly Bills (AB) 382, 384, and 415.

AB 382 prohibits the Board of Regents of the UW System from increasing resident undergraduate student tuition by more than the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) for the previous year.

AB 384 makes changes to how the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection regulates and stores petroleum products and other dangerous substances.

AB 415 makes updates to dealer purchases of catalytic converters

Statues Returned to State Capitol Grounds

I am pleased to share that the two statues of Lady "Forward" and Col. Hans Christian Heg were returned to their posts on Capitol Square earlier this week. You may remember that these historic statues were torn down and damaged last summer by violent protesters who wreaked havoc in downtown Madison.

The cost to restore these statues is estimated to be around $82,000. Fortunately, Wisconsin received a federal grant for $60,000, and the Wisconsin Historical Society was able to raise the remaining amount needed to restore and replace these iconic statues.

Hayward Lions' Oktoberfest

I had a great time last Saturday at the Oktoberfest celebration in Hayward. Thank you to the Hayward Lions Club for putting on an awesome event!

Royal Credit Union Joins the Medford Community

On Wednesday, I was pleased to attend the ribbon-cutting for Royal Credit Union's new branch in Medford. It is great to see another financial institution making an investment in the 87th District.

Upcoming Events Around the 87th

One of my favorite parts about serving as your state representative is getting out and interacting with constituents at many of the wonderful community events across the 87th District. Check out some of the upcoming events around the district below. Also, if you know of any other events, please contact my office and let me know, so I can include them in a future e-update and try to attend myself.

Stay Up to Date

One of the best ways to stay up to date with what is going on in Madison is to sign up for the legislature's notification tracking service. This service allows you to follow legislative activity in Madison. Once you create a free account you can sign up to receive notifications about specific bills or committees as well as legislative activity pertaining to a subject area (i.e. agriculture, veterans). You can sign up for this service at notify.legis.wisconsin.gov.
