Rep. Donovan Statement on Bipartisan Reckless Driving Bills
Madison – Representative Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield) gave a statement following the Executive Session in the Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Rep. Donovan said:
“I want to thank Chairman Spiros and the whole committee for passing both AB 55 and AB 56 today. Public safety does not have to be a partisan issue. Our communities depend on elected officials and government to work for the people and to ensure public safety. Today, I am proud to stand with friends from both sides of the aisle to send a message that public safety is a priority again.
The story of Abbie Strong’s husband who was killed by a reckless driver has unfortunately become common in Wisconsin. This legislation is not a silver bullet, but a needed first step in solving this deadly issue. Again, I want to thank my friends in the Legislature for their assistance and support. The passage of these bills through the next step of the legislative process increasingly makes me hopeful that we can begin to take back our streets.”
