Rep. Donovan’s Reckless Driving Legislation Signed into Law
Madison – Today, Representative Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield) gave a statement following the bill signing ceremony in the Capitol. Governor Evers signed Rep. Donovan’s bipartisan reckless driving legislation that allows municipalities to tow vehicles of reckless drivers if they have previous unpaid fines. Rep. Donovan said:
“Exactly three months ago, I started my time representing the great people of the 84th Assembly District. Today, a strong message is being sent to those that blatantly disobey our traffic laws – threatening the public. The law must be followed or you will lose your vehicle.”
“I want to first thank Governor Evers for realizing the necessity of this legislation and signing it into law. I must also commend Mayor Johnson for his public support and diligence to combating reckless driving. Stories like Abbie Strong’s is a message that everyone should know. Her powerful testimony in committee about her husband’s accident with a reckless driver was moving and a driving force behind this legislation. Finally, I want to thank my colleagues for putting politics aside and supporting this legislation. Public safety after all doesn’t have to be partisan.”
“As elected leaders, our constituents are the utmost priority. We heard their calls for help and delivered. One bill will not fix our issues overnight, but this is a first step of many to reestablishing public safety in our communities.”
