Representative Subeck and Senator Hesselbein Praise Introduction of “Right to Contraception Act” in Congress
Wednesday, February 12, 2025
MADISON – This week, a coalition of congressional leaders, including Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), introduced the federal Right to Contraception Act that would create a statutory right for individuals to obtain and use contraception and for health care providers to provide it.
Similar state-level legislation to establish the Right to Contraception in Wisconsin was introduced by Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) and Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) last year. Rep. Subeck and Sen. Hesselbein released the following statements:
Representative Lisa Subeck: “Every Wisconsinite should have the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions and plan their own futures. In the face of unprecedented political attacks on access to reproductive health care, the Right to Contraception Act would protect our ability to make our own family planning decisions.
I would like to thank Senator Baldwin for her leadership on this issue, and I look forward to reintroducing a bill to protect the Right to Contraception here in Wisconsin very soon.”
Senator Dianne Hesselbein: “Ensuring that Wisconsinites have uninterrupted access to contraception should not be controversial. I appreciate Senator Baldwin’s steadfast leadership and her renewed push for this commonsense proposal protecting reproductive health care.”
Representative Subeck and Senator Hesselbein led a similar effort in the Wisconsin state legislature during its 2023-2024 session and plan to introduce the bill again in the coming months.
