Wisconsin Republicans Put Politics Ahead of Women in Quest to Defund Planned Parenthood

February 11, 2016

MADISON – Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement in response to Assembly passage of SB 238, which singles out Planned Parenthood, reducing Medicaid reimbursement for birth control to the organization. The bill is part of a broad agenda by Republicans to demonize and defund Planned Parenthood, leaving women with diminished access to critical health care.

“SB 238 is motivated by one thing only - the Republicans’ obsession with defunding Planned Parenthood at any cost. Again, Republicans are putting politics ahead of women with a bill that will result in diminished access to women’s health care.

From the time Republicans gained control of the legislature, they have engaged in a constant drumbeat demonizing Planned Parenthood and a never-ending quest to chip away at the vital services Planned Parenthood provides. Republicans have again thrown women under the bus to score political points with the most extreme right-wing special interests.

As Democrats fight to ensure every woman has access to critical health care, Assembly Republicans are so obsessed with their quest to defund Planned Parenthood that they are willing to put women’s health and lives in jeopardy.”
