Representative Lisa Subeck Statement on Assembly Floor Session

MADISON –Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met in regular session to consider Republican-authored legislation to eliminate federal unemployment insurance benefits for Wisconsinites. In response, Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement.

“After a year of economic uncertainty and record unemployment claims caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we received welcome news this week that  Wisconsin is projected to bring in $4.4 billion more in revenue through the biennium thanks in large part to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) enhanced UI payments to unemployed Wisconsinites.  The investments in Wisconsin implemented by President Biden and Governor Evers have worked well to fuel our economy and underscore the positive impact of the federal recovery plan on our state.  

Despite the clear benefits of the enhanced unemployment insurance payments, Assembly Republicans voted today to eliminate them for hardworking Wisconsinites who have become unemployed due to no fault of their own. This is nothing more than a politically-motivated attempt to undermine the effectiveness and popularity of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act.”
