Representative Lisa Subeck Participates in White House Meeting with State Legislative Leaders on Reproductive Rights

MADISON – Today, Representative Lisa Subeck participated in a White House meeting with state legislative leaders on reproductive rights. The meeting included 12 state legislators from states around the country where access to abortion is severely limited by the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization.

“Thank you to the White House for making continued access to abortion a priority and for bringing us together today,” said Representative Subeck. “At a time when our reproductive freedom is in peril, legislative leaders are working together to restore and preserve access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services.”

Wisconsin has had a criminal abortion ban on the books since 1849. The ban was considered unenforceable due to the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. Since the Dobbs ruling overturned Roe, abortion services have ceased in the state.

“The Dobbs ruling threatens the basic freedom of Wisconsinites to make our own reproductive health and family planning decisions,” said Representative Subeck. “Wisconsin is not alone, and today’s meeting provided an opportunity to build working relationships with legislative leaders in states facing similar threats to reproductive freedom.

Representative Lisa Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as the Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
