Rep. Subeck Welcomes Wisconsin’s Sovereign Tribal Nations to State Capitol

Celebrates the 15TH Annual State of the Tribes Address

MADISON – State Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) participated in the 15th annual State of the Tribes Address on Tuesday, April 9th in the Wisconsin State Capitol. The address strives to improve communication between state government and Wisconsin’s tribal nations so they can work together on areas of mutual concern. Each year, the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council selects a member to deliver the address. This year’s State of the Tribes Address was delivered by Oneida Nation Chairman Tehassi Hill.

“Wisconsin’s eleven sovereign tribal nations are at the center of our state’s past, present, and future. Today we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our state’s tribes, recognize the injustices these nations have endured, and renew our commitment to work with Wisconsin’s tribal communities toward our shared goals.

“I am proud to stand with tribal leaders from across our state to reduce gaps in opportunity, preserve our priceless natural resources, and invest in our communities so every Wisconsinite can thrive,” said Rep. Subeck.
