Rep. Lisa Subeck: Statement on 18th Annual State of the Tribes Address

MADISON – Today, Stockbridge-Munsee President Shannon Holsey delivered the 18th Annual State of the Tribes address before a joint convention of the State Legislature. Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement.

“Thank you to Stockbridge-Munsee President Shannon Holsey for delivering this year’s State of the Tribes Address.  The tradition of this annual address presents an important opportunity for legislators and tribal leaders to share what issues they are focused on addressing and provides ways state legislators and sovereign nations can work together to accomplish these goals.

The State of the Tribes address is not only an occasion to recognize the injustices endured by Native people but also a chance to celebrate their successes.  From serving in our nation’s armed forces to stewardship of our environment, and from driving economic development to a strong response and partnership responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of our state’s tribal members and nations has been and will continue to be crucial to the success of Wisconsin.”

Representative Lisa Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as vice-chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
